No Retreat, No Surrender

Luke 24:36-53 (ESV)

36As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” 37But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. 38And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 41And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marvelling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” 42They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43and he took it and ate before them.
44Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things. 49And behold, I am sending the promise
of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
50And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52And they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53and were continually in the temple blessing God.

The name that is above every name!

Philippians 2:5-9 (ESV)

5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I want you to take note of verses 10-11. It is not the name; JESUS, that God had given Him. That was already His name when He came to this earth. Jesus means; “The One Who Saves”. We understand that. But, rather, It is the words found in verse 11; Ἰησοῦς Χριστός ὁ κύριος – JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! Jesus Christ is the King who reigns over all kings; He is the Lord who is over all Lords, and every person on this planet, from past to present, to future, whether Christian or unbeliever, will bow to that name – HE IS LORD; HE IS THE SOVEREIGN ONE!

People do not understand the meaning of, LORD!

The problem for so many people is that they do not understand what it means to have Jesus Christ as LORD!

Well, people will go to Scriptures such as Romans 10:9 and say, “Well, there you have it… All I have to say is that Jesus is Lord and then I will be saved”. The problem, of course, is in their understanding of what that Scripture is actually saying and what it really means. Let us read it together. Turn to Romans 10.

Romans 10:9 (ESV)

9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

You have got to understand that it’s not so much about saying or confessing the name of Jesus that saves you. Jesus himself says in the book of Matthew 7:22-23, “On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”

The point of the words, “Jesus is Lord…” has got nothing to do with saying out loud (or even softly for that matter) the name of Jesus but rather, it is saying and when you say that Jesus is Lord, you actually mean it! There is a vast difference between saying something and meaning it. Our problem in the church today and the evangelical world is that we have led people to believe that all they have to do is say the name of Jesus and they are saved but we failed to tell them that when you say that Jesus is your Lord you actually have to mean it. Therefore, if Jesus is Lord then he is the complete ruler of our lives…

(Philosophy/Poem) Explain Your Self

Truth Troubles

Explain Your Self

Just who do we really think we are

If a stranger asked our spouse about us

What is it do we think they would really say

Would they paint the stranger a happy picture

Or, would they vent and spit venom at our name

Our Children, do you think they ever really knew us

Ever wonder what our kids and theirs think about us

Do you think about if they know you really do love them

Our childhood, how did we really manage to survive it

What have we done for those we can say we really love

So many failures, so many things I wish I could change

Were you are a child just trying to learn to stay out of the way

If you were never taught reality, how can one manage to find it

We hopefully can reach old age if we can live…
